Dearest readers,

I always find that people’s shoe choices, especially their everyday shoe, says more about them than words ever could. I always look forward to seeing what funky sneakers Audrey will wear, and I always recognize my friend Nathan by his bright yellow crocs. One of my dearest friends, Tyler Campbell, wears his Converse nearly every day. To me this is one of his defining characteristics.

“My Converse were my first big purchase when I got my debit card in Summer 2022. I was 14, and they were kinda my first accessory that felt “teenaged,” and not just something my parents picked out for me from Famous Footwear. They felt like a way to be independent from my monotonous school uniform and to be a “cooler teenager.” My parents thought they were ugly, but truthfully that only made me love them more. I wore them religiously until the summer of 2025, when they had their last outing at Hinterland in Iowa with my best friend David. They quite literally tore off my feet and fell apart on the last day. It felt fitting though, to lose them in August, right before my freshman year at Pitt began. I closed one chapter of my life, and started a new one when I bought my next pair.

My first pair of converse was one of my favorite things to photograph alongside my friends, and I still think of them fondly!!!!”

I’ve always fallen in love with shoes that hurt my feet. I can remember the first pair that ever did. Beaded magenta mary janes that had a little buckled strap on top and flower embellishments on the toe. I was four years old and they made me feel like Strawberry Shortcake, the most powerful girl in the world.

This past week, I wore my tan Doc Marten boots. It was a bad decision. Not only was it 82 degrees, but my boots are also fur-lined. I was sweaty and started to worry I had plantar fasciitis because every time I stopped walking, my heels would BURN. I had to pause and stand before crosswalks on my toes so my heels wouldn’t touch the ground. The pain was so bad I had to walk all the way to CVS to get emergency Dr. Scholl’s inserts. I thought Doc Martens were supposed to be comfortable!!!!!

After receiving countless images of carabiners this week for the blog, I became inspired to update my own apartment keys. Attached to my key and fob are a vintage Virginia Slims advertising keychain, a small friendship bracelet, and a bullet casing made into a small pencil!!

Here, I styled my favorite two pairs of walking shoes (my Fenty X Puma creepers and Adidas Superstars) and the Doc Martens that destroyed my heels.

Until next time ᯓ★ express your true self, if the shoe fits!
